IFTA licenses expire each year on December 31. You must renew your IFTA license and buy new decals annually. The renewal period is from October 15 through December 31. When the renewal period opens, you as a current license holder can submit your renewal online through your TAP account.
IFTA Tips for Renewal and Return Filing
Important: You can’t renew an IFTA license unless you’ve filed all your IFTA returns and paid all tax due including any penalty, interest, and fees.
Renewing
Renewing October 15 through December 31: Renew your Idaho IFTA license, order new decals, and pay by logging into your TAP account.
If not renewed by December 31: You must apply for a new IFTA license using the online application or the Form IMC-2, Idaho Motor Carrier Application – IFTA. You can’t use your TAP account to renew after December 31.
You can request more decals at any time if one gets destroyed or you add qualifying vehicles to your IFTA fleet.
Fees
The cost to renew an Idaho IFTA license after September 30, 2026, is $3 per decal set (two decals per set). Each IFTA vehicle needs one decal set. After December 31, you must apply for a new license. The decal cost for new licenses is the same.
Displaying Decals Early
You can put your new decals for a certain year on your IFTA fleet vehicles as early as November of the previous year. See the IFTA Articles of Agreement, R630, on the IFTA website.
IFTA grace period
After you’ve renewed your IFTA license, you have a two-month grace period (January and February) to distribute copies of your IFTA licenses and decals to your IFTA fleet vehicles.
