Canceling an Idaho IFTA license
You can cancel your Idaho IFTA license if you no longer operate qualified motor vehicles in two or more IFTA jurisdictions, including Idaho. It’s a violation to display an IFTA cab card or decal when you no longer hold an IFTA license (Idaho Code section 63-2455).
You can reapply for a new IFTA license at any time. Contact us for more information.
To cancel your license
- Log into your TAP account.
- Select the Form 3150, International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA) Report, for your last quarter of interstate activity and pay. If you have activity during part of a quarter, you must file a return for that quarter.
- Make sure to cancel your IFTA license when completing your return or from the IFTA panel on the Summary tab. Or, you can do it from our Business Taxpayer Self-Service page.
- Send us your original IFTA license and all decals.
Revocation of an Idaho IFTA license
We can revoke your Idaho IFTA license if you do any of these:
- Haven’t engaged in business as an Idaho IFTA carrier in the last 12 months
- Don’t pay fuel taxes on time
- Don’t pay in full
- Don’t file an IFTA tax return
- Don’t follow the IFTA rules and recordkeeping requirements
We’ll notify you by mail of our intent to revoke your license. You’ll have 30 days from the date of the letter to appeal.
Operating while your license is revoked
If your Idaho IFTA license is revoked, the Idaho Transportation Department can require you to buy temporary permits to travel in Idaho. Other jurisdictions might require you to get a temporary fuel tax trip permit. Some jurisdictions might impose even stricter sanctions.
Reinstating your IFTA license
If you want to operate your IFTA fleet in any jurisdiction after a revocation of your license – and you don’t want to buy fuel tax trip permits – you must correct the problems that caused the revocation. Then, apply to reinstate your license using the online application or the Form IMC-2, Idaho Motor Carrier Application – IFTA. Idaho might require you to get an IFTA license bond.
