You can apply for an Idaho IFTA license if you operate IFTA-qualified vehicles in Idaho and at least one other jurisdiction. Your IFTA license and decals are valid from January through December of each year.

Applying
You can apply using the online application or a printed form that you can download. You can also get the form at any Idaho Port of Entry.
Complete the application and pay in one of these ways:
- Use the online application to apply and pay.
- Download Form IMC-2, Idaho Motor Carrier Application – IFTA and do one of these:
- Mail your completed form and payment.
- Email the completed form. Pay over the phone by contacting the IFTA Help Desk.
Fees
For all applications submitted after September 30, 2026, the fee is $3 per decal set. Each IFTA vehicle needs one decal set.

Bond
We don’t normally require you to post a bond as a new IFTA licensee. However, we might require a bond if you don’t file your returns on time, if you don’t pay the fuel taxes on time, or if the results of an audit show you didn’t follow other IFTA requirements.
What’s next
After we process your application, we’ll mail your IFTA license and decals to you.
- Make a photocopy of the IFTA license (cab card) and keep it in the cab of each vehicle. Keep the original in a safe place so you can make copies if you add vehicles to your fleet.
- Place decals on each side of the lower rear exterior of each vehicle’s cab. You can request more decals if one is destroyed or you add a vehicle to your IFTA fleet.
Getting temporary and special permits
Temporary fuel tax permits are useful if you have an IFTA-qualified vehicle, you don’t have a current IFTA license, and you need to travel to another jurisdiction. You must get one for each jurisdiction where you’ll travel. Similarly, you’ll need temporary registration fee permits for each jurisdiction if you aren’t IRP registered.
If you’re not based in Idaho but you’re traveling here, you can get temporary fuel tax permits, registration fee permits, and other special trip permits (such as those for oversized loads) from an Idaho Port of Entry or the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD).
