Tax Commission announces temporary feature shutdown and new costs for IFTA decals

Beginning October 1, the fees are changing for International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA) licenses, renewals, and additional decal orders.

Idaho-based commercial truckers with IFTA-qualified vehicles need to know:

• • The new costs are in effect as the annual renewal period begins on October 15, 2026.
  • From September 24-30, users can’t use the “retrieve application” feature for an application that was in progress. This allows them to get the correct application and new pricing beginning October 1.

The change to the program means an end to the $10 application fee for new licenses and the $5 fee for license renewals or additional decal orders. Instead, Idaho-based commercial trucks now pay $3 per decal set with no additional fees. This means everyone pays the same price per commercial truck whether they have one truck or 100. It also allows the State of Idaho to cover costs for IFTA licensing and issuing decals.

Renewal dates are Oct. 15 to Dec. 31. After that, users must start a new application.

IFTA allows interstate and international carriers to file a single quarterly fuel tax return in their home state if they purchase the required license and decal sets for each IFTA-qualified vehicle. The agreement exists between the 48 contiguous U.S. states and 10 Canadian provinces.
