Beat the rush—file your income taxes in March for a faster refund

BOISE, IDAHO — March 14, 2017 — You have until Tuesday, April 18 to file your 2016 individual income tax returns and pay any taxes you owe. But if you’re expecting a refund from Idaho, filing in March will get you your refund faster.

“March is the best time to beat the rush, file your taxes, and get a faster refund before the last wave of returns starts coming in April,” said Renee Eymann, the Idaho State Tax Commission’s public information officer. “Once April arrives, we get showered with about 250,000 tax returns, most of them arriving on the due date.”

Eymann says there are three things you can do to speed up your refund:

  1. E-file your state tax return
  2. File as soon as you can during March
  3. Choose to have your refund directly deposited into your bank account

Also, April 18 is the payment deadline this year for taxpayers to qualify for an automatic filing extension. Those who qualify must file their return by Monday, Oct. 16, 2017.
