Track your tax refund online

BOISE, IDAHO — Feb. 17, 2016 — If you want to check the status of your Idaho income tax refund, go to the Idaho State Tax Commission website at and click on the "Where's my refund?" orange button on the right side of the site. You can also visit our “Refund Info” page at to check timelines, watch a short video, and get tips on how you can help speed up your refund processing time either before you file or if you receive a letter from us.

Another way to get a refund update is by calling the Tax Commission's automated phone number at 364-7389 in the Boise area or toll-free at (888) 228-5770.

Both refund services are available 24 hours a day. To get your refund status, you must provide your Social Security number and the amount of your expected refund.

“All returns go through accuracy checks and a fraud review before we issue any refunds. This ensures the refunds are sent to the people who are supposed to receive them,” said Doreen Warren, Revenue Operations administrator for the Tax Commission. She added, “These reviews have been very effective—last year we identified about 1,170 confirmed fraudulent returns and stopped more than $1.7 million from being paid to those who weren’t entitled to the refund.”

When you file your taxes online, you can usually begin tracking your refund three to five business days after you receive your acknowledgment email from the Tax Commission. Generally, your refund will arrive within seven weeks of the acknowledgement email.

If you file a paper return, you can expect to wait three weeks to track your refund status. The refund should arrive in about 10 to 11 weeks.

If this is the first time you’re filing an Idaho income tax return, it will take three weeks to enter your information into our system. It will then take seven to 11 more weeks to get your refund, depending on whether you e-file or file by paper.
