More than 55,000 Idahoans eligible for property tax reduction

BOISE, IDAHO — Feb. 21, 2017 — Just under half of the more than 55,000 Idahoans eligible for a reduction in their property taxes actually apply for the Idaho Property Tax Reduction Program. Seniors, low-to-moderate income taxpayers can get free income tax help

BOISE, IDAHO — Feb. 15, 2017 — Senior citizens or people with low-to-moderate income can find free help to prepare their income tax returns at tax preparation sites throughout Idaho. To find the sites closest to them, taxpayers can go to the Idaho State Tax Commission’s website, tax.idaho.gov, and click on the “Free Income Tax Help” link under the “Quick Picks” section. The sites, sponsored by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) or the AARP Foundation, are listed together by county. (Read more)

Form W-2 scam targeting schools, restaurants, hospitals, tribal groups, and others

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS), state tax agencies, and the tax industry have issued an urgent alert to all employers of a Form W-2 email phishing scam that has evolved beyond the corporate world and is spreading to other sectors, including school districts, tribal organizations, and nonprofits. In a related development, the W-2 scammers are coupling their efforts to steal employee W-2 information with an older scheme on wire transfers that is victimizing some organizations twice.
