Free electronic filing for tax year 2018

The state of Idaho has partnered with software developers and the IRS to provide selected groups of taxpayers with free electronic filing. To see if you qualify for free filing, please read the information below and click on the company name to view their software.

  • 1040.com offers free federal and Idaho filing if you have an adjusted gross income (AGI) of $60,000 or less and:
    • You're under age 52 (as of 12-31-2018)
    • Or You qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC)
    • Or You're on active duty military with an adjusted gross income (AGI) of $66,000 or less.
  • 1040NOW offers free federal and state tax returns if your AGI is $32,000 or less and you live in Idaho.
    • This offer is limited to three free tax returns per computer.
  • FreeTaxUSA Free File Edition offers free federal and state tax returns if:
    • Your AGI is $35,000 or less
    • Or you're eligible for the EITC
    • Or you're on active military duty in 2018 with an AGI of $66,000 or less
  • H&R Block Free File offers free federal and Idaho filing if you have an AGI of $66,000 or less and:
    • You were between the ages of 17-50 (as of 12-31-2018)
    • Or you're eligible for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC)
    • Or you were active duty military in 2018.
  • Intuit TurboTax Free File Program offers free federal and state tax returns if:
    • Your AGI is $34,000 or less
    • Or you're eligible for the EITC
    • Or you're on active military duty with an AGI of $66,000 or less
  • Online Taxes at OLT.com offers free federal and free state online tax preparation and e-filing if:
    • Your federal AGI is between $14,000 and $66,000
    • Or you're on active duty military with an AGI of $66,000 or less.
  • TaxAct offers free federal and Idaho filing if you have an AGI of $55,000 or less and:
    • Your age is 56 or younger
    • Or you're eligible for EITC
    • Or You're on active duty military with an AGI of $66,000 or less.
