Free electronic filing for tax year 2017

The state of Idaho has partnered with software developers and the IRS to provide selected groups of taxpayers with free electronic filing. To see if you qualify for free filing, please read the information below and click on the company name to view their software.

Be sure to use the links on this page to use the free services offered. Otherwise, you may be assessed fees or charges by these companies.

  • 1040.com offers free federal and Idaho filing if you have an adjusted gross income of $60,000 or less and:
    • You were under age 52 (as of 12-31-2017)
    • Or You qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC)
    • Or You're on active duty military with an adjusted gross income (AGI) of $64,000 or less.
  • Free Tax USA provides free federal and Idaho filing if you have an adjusted gross income (AGI) of $51,000 or less and:
    • You were between the ages of 17-61 (as of 12-31-2017)
    • Or You're on active duty military with an adjusted gross income (AGI) of $66,000 or less.
  • Intuit TurboTax Freedom Edition donates free federal and state tax returns and tax extensions if:
    • Your AGI is $33,000 or less
    • Or your AGI is $66,000 or less and you're active duty military (including reservists and National Guard)
    • Or you're eligible for the EITC
  • H&R Block Free File offers free federal and Idaho filing if you have an AGI of $66,000 or less and:
    • You were between the ages of 17-50 (as of 12-31-2017)
    • Or you were active duty military in 2017.
  • Online Taxes at OLT.com offers free federal and free state online tax preparation and e-filing if:
    • Your federal AGI is between $14,000 and $66,000 (no age restrictions)
    • Or you were active duty military in 2017 and your AGI was $66,000 or less.
  • TaxAct offers free federal and Idaho filing if you have an AGI of $53,000 or less and:
    • Your age is 56 or younger
    • Or you're eligible for EITC
    • Or You're on active duty military with an AGI of $66,000 or less.
