Tax Commission News Release
Want a quicker state tax refund? E-file it!
BOISE, IDAHO — Feb. 15, 2011 — If you want a faster income tax refund, the Idaho State Tax Commission recommends that you e-file your Idaho return. When you file your taxes online, it takes about four weeks for the state to issue a refund check. When you file by paper, it takes about eight to 10 weeks to get your refund.
“E-filed returns process quicker than paper returns because we don’t have to enter the information by hand,” said Doreen Warren, revenue operations administrator. She added, “All returns go through W-2 validation and other reviews before we issue any refunds.”
You can also get a refund update by calling the Tax Commission’s toll-free automated phone number at (888) 228-5770 or 364-7389 in the Boise area.
Both refund services are available 24 hours a day. To get your refund status, you must provide your Social Security number and the amount of your expected refund.
When you file your taxes online, your refund status is usually available three to five business days after filing the return. If you file a paper return, you can expect to wait five weeks for your refund status.
