OPINION: Tax Commission steps up efforts to prevent tax fraud from identity theft

BOISE, IDAHO — March 28, 2016 — By Ken A. Roberts, Idaho State Tax Commission Chairman

It’s no secret that identity theft is a persistent crime that’s time consuming and frustrating for its victims. When criminals steal your personal data (especially your name and Social Security number), they can use that information to file a fraudulent tax return. 

Because tax-related identity theft is an increasing threat, the Idaho State Tax Commission has partnered with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), state tax agencies, and the tax software industry to develop stronger fraud detection and prevention tools for all aspects of the tax filing process in 2016 to minimize your risk of identity theft. More Idahoans can apply for this year’s Idaho Property Tax Reduction Program

BOISE, IDAHO — Feb. 25, 2016 — Just under half of the more than 55,000 Idahoans eligible for a reduction in their property taxes actually apply for the Idaho Property Tax Reduction Program. The Idaho State Tax Commission wants to make more people aware of this property tax credit that’s available to low-income seniors and others who qualify, especially with expanded status qualifications that allow more potential claimants to apply this year.
